Golden Butter Cake - A step by step pictorial guide

Melt in your mouth butter cake

It's nice to go back to basic and make a simple butter cake. Beginners always start with a butter cake as it is the simplest cake recipe and doesn't require many ingredients.

I fondly remember the numerous times failed butter cakes were fed to our dogs when my mum was learning to bake.

If you are in the mood for delicious old fashion treat, I would recommend making your own butter cake. This butter cake recipe is so versatile as it can be varied by adding cocoa powder, orange juice or Nestum to create different types of cakes. It is also good as a birthday cake with some nice decoration on top.

So here's a delicious golden butter cake recipe adapted from  Baking Made Easy by Agnes Chang. Best part is, it is so simple that you could whip it up in a wink.

You can really taste the difference if you use a good quality butter for butter cake. I like to use Golden Churn Butter. I also use a high grade organic vanilla extract as compared to the regular one which contains preservatives. When you bake at home try to avoid adding preservatives and artificial flavorings to your food. The organic version is very expensive but you can be assured that it contains only natural ingredients.

1. Preheat the oven at 175° celcius. Beat the butter and caster sugar at low to medium speed until batter turns light. Butter should be softened at room temperature prior to beating.

2. Meantime, sift the flour in a bowl.

3. When the batter turns light, add in the eggs one at a time.

4. Continue to beat the mixture once each egg has been added. After all eggs have been added, add in the vanilla extract.

5. Add in the sifted flour and fold in with a spatula.

6. Followed by the milk.

7. The batter should be thick and smooth once all the ingredients are incorporated. Place the batter into a square cake pan. Don't forget to line the pan with baking paper. Pop it in the oven for 45 minutes.

8. Remove cake once done. Let the cake cool. Once the cake has cooled down cut into slices with a serrated knife.

Only 8 simple steps and 1 hour preparation and baking time to some delicious golden butter cakes.

Happy baking! xx
