Spring Onion Bun

Soft and fluffy buns topped with spring onions and sesame seeds

My second bread post! This is really killing two birds with one stone.

Remember the Green Tea Milk Bun which I made? The dough recipe for this Spring Onion Bun is the same dough recipe for the Green Tea Milk Bun. I merely made two different types of bun with the same dough so that we don't get bored of eating the same bun for a week.

Since the Green Tea Milk Bun is a sweet bun, I decided to make something savoury with the other half of the dough.

The recipe for the dough can be found here.

Below is the recipe for the spring onion topping.

Ingredients
100g spring onions, chopped
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt (reduce to 1/4 as it was a bit salty)
1/2 tsp powdered chicken stock
30g butter
white sesame seeds

Method
Mix the spring onions, egg, salt, chicken stock and butter in a bowl. Add in the spring onions.

Divide the entire dough into two equal portions and out of one of the portion divide into smaller 5 portions. Roll into balls and allow buns to proof (second time).

Spoon the spring onion mixture on the proved buns then sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Bake in oven at 175°c for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

-------------------------------------------------

I found that the spring onion topping was a bit salty which is why I think salt and chicken stock should be reduced to 1/4 tsp each. Apart from that the buns were good. If you're one who always go for sour cream and onion crisps, you'll most likely like this bun.

Try it out!

Happy baking! xx
